Bharati Manandhar begins hunger strike against decision to grant amnesty to Rigal
KATHMANDU: Bharati Manandhar started a hunger strike against the decision of President Ram Chandra Paudel to grant amnesty to Yog Dhakal aka Rigal, the murderer of her husband Chetan Manandhar.
Manandhar, who came to Kathmandu from Nepalgunj seeking justice, started her hunger strike at Maitighar Mandala from today.
She has also filed a complaint at the Supreme Court against the decision to grant amnesty to Rigal.
A preliminary hearing of the case has been scheduled for today.
A Nepal Tarun Dal leader, Rigal, who was sentenced to life imprisonment for murdering Manandhar, was released on Constitution Day.
President Paudel, on the government’s recommendation, pardoned his remaining jail term.
Saying that if a person, arrested on the murder charge, gets amnesty, Manandhar, speaking at a programme organised in Reporters’ Club on Tuesday, asked the government to give her a weapon to take revenge.
Rigal was sentenced to life for killing Chetan by attacking with a sharp weapon in 2015.
