Dhangadhi’s assembly postponed as dispute over MCC creates rift in Socialist Front

KATHMANDU: The dispute over the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Compact has created a rift in the Socialist Front.

As a result, the Front’s message assembly scheduled to be held in Dhangadhi on Wednesday has been postponed.

Prime Minister and CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, CPN (Unified Socialist) Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal, Communist Party of Nepal General Secretary Netra Bikram Chandra (Biplav) and Janata Samajbadi Party Sudurpaschim In-charge Govinda Chaudhary among others were scheduled to address the program today.

The MCC will go into implementation today.

The assembly was postponed after CPN General Secretary Biplav expressed his dissatisfaction over the decision of the government to go for the implementation of the MCC, CPN leader Anil Sharma said.

Prime Minister Dahal and CPN General Secretary Biplav had held a meeting in Baluwatar this morning.

It has been learnt that Biplav had even warned to break the existing Front.

“The Dhangadhi’s assembly was postponed after the government gave a nod for the implementation of the MCC. The assembly was postponed after Biplav said that they cannot go together if the MCC goes into implementation,” Sharma said. “It has been mentioned in the manifesto of the Front that they would cooperate for national independence and socialism.”

Leaders of the other parties of the Front, however, claimed that the meeting was deferred due to the busy schedule of the leaders.
