Govt transfers police personnel involved in investigation to protect its people: UML

KATHMANDU: The main opposition CPN-UML has accused the government of transferring the police personnel involved in the investigation to protect its people.

UML Whip Mahesh Bartaula said that the government transferred the police personnel to set free the leaders of the ruling parties dragged in the scam.

Saying that the Crime Investigation Bureau (CIB) and other government agencies are being operated at the direction of the government, leader Bartaula, while speaking with the journalists in the premises of the Parliament building on Sunday, said that they did not think that the gold smuggling case will be investigated in an independent and impartial manner.

He said that they will not budge from their stance of forming a high-level probe committee to investigate the latest gold smuggling case.

“It is necessary to form a high-level probe committee. The police personnel active in the investigation have been transferred after they found that the leaders of the ruling parties are involved in the smuggling of gold. What it shows is that though it be CIB or Department of Revenue Investigation, they have not been able to work in an independent and impartial manner,” he said. “That is why our demand to arrest those involved in the case will continue. We will not take back our demand.”

Meanwhile, Bartaula said that the UML will not obstruct the Parliament proceedings, but the high-level probe committee should be formed to investigate the gold smuggling case in an independent and impartial manner.
