President’s Office sends proposal to grant amnesty to Resham Chaudhary back to Home Ministry

KATHMANDU: The Office of the President returned the proposal to grant amnesty to Nagarik Unmukti leader Resham Chaudhary, who is serving life imprisonment in connection with the Tikapur incident, back to the Home Ministry on Friday.

Earlier, the Home Ministry had sent a proposal to the President’s Office to include Chaudhary, the main accused in the Tikapur incident, on the list of individuals to be granted amnesty by the President on Republic Day.

The Office has requested the Home Ministry to send the proposal in a way that does not contradict the principles of the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court (SC) had on May 16 upheld the Dipayal High Court’s decision to sentence Chaudhary to life imprisonment.
