Top Bahadur Rayamajhi remanded in custody for three days
KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu District Court on Monday granted permission to the police authority to keep former Deputy Prime Minister and UML leader Top Bahadur Rayamajhi in custody for three days.
Earlier today, the police authority had requested permission from the court, through the District Government Attorney Office in Kathmandu, to detain Rayamajhi for three days to conduct an investigation on the fake refugee scam.
Following the request, the district court granted the permission.
Rayamajhi, who was absconding since May 4 after an arrest warrant was issued against him, was arrested from Budhanilakantha in Kathmandu on Sunday night on the charge of his involvement in the racket of sending off people to the United States of America in the guise of Bhutanese refugee.
He was presented before the District Court today.
So far, police have arrested 13 people, including some high-profile individuals such as former Minister for Home Affairs Bal Krishna Khand, former Minister for Home Affairs Ram Bahadur Thapa’s security advisor Indra Jit Rai and former Home Secretary Tek Narayan Pandey among others, for their alleged involvement in the scam.
