3 sherpa climbers go missing on Mt Everest
KATHMANDU: Three sherpa climbers went missing after an avalanche swept down and buried them in a crevasse in Mt Everest on Wednesday.
The search for the climbers, who have been missing since 9:30 AM this morning, is underway, said the Department of Tourism, Nepal.
The missing climbers have been identified as Da Tshiri Sherpa, Lakpa Tendi Sherpa and Lakpa Rita Sherpa, said Tourism Department official Yubaraj Khatiwada.
Khatiwada said, “They have gone missing between Camp I and the base camp. The search for the climbers is being conducted via Simrik Air helicopter, but they have not been found yet.”
Efforts are being made to rescue the climbers from the ground level as well, Khatiwada said.
