Tension runs high after police, protestors clash in Biratnagar (photos)
BIRATNAGAR: Tension ran high after a group of people protesting against the naming of the Koshi Province and police personnel clashed in Roadcess chowk, Biratnagar on Tuesday.
Police used force after the protestors tired to enter the restricted area breaking the police barricades, said police chief Deepak Pokharel of Morang.
The protestors had surrounded Big Hotel in which the province lawmakers were to participate in a program.
They also vandalized the hotel after forcing their way past police barricades.
Police used tear gas and water cannons after the demonstrators pelted stones.
Following the ongoing protests that are being carried out in Biratnagar, the local administration has declared some places as prohibited areas.
