Mahesh Basnet urges senior leaders to form left government
KATHMANDU: After the Nepali Congress leaders floated differing views to accept CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal as the prime minister in the coalition government, efforts have been started to form a left government.
Second rung leaders have become active to bring the CPN-UML and the Maoist Centre in one place at a time when the Nepali Congress has been expressing its unwillingness to give the post of president to the communist.
In the meantime, UML politburo member and youth in-charge Mahesh Basnet held separate meetings with Maoist Center Chairman Dahal and CPN (Unified Socialist) Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal and urged them to correct their course.
Basnet urged the senior leaders to take initiatives to form the left government.
Basnet had lost the election to the House of Representatives with a thin margin.
The left has lost the majority in the Parliament for the first time since 2007.
Basnet said that he took an initiative to form a left government from his side to take the country towards the path of stability and to protect from foreign elements.
Dahal had Nepal have given a positive response to the proposal to form the left government.
After Basnet met the senior leaders, Maoist Centre General Secretary Dev Gurung held a meeting with UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli.
Leaders claimed that both parties are making efforts to form the left government to prevent foreign interference in the state power even by making Dahal the prime minister and the UML taking the key posts like president and speaker.
The UML, however, has not taken any efforts to form the government yet.
Leaders have been saying that discussions could be held on giving prime minister to Dahal if he leaves the coalition.
UML leaders are in constant touch with CPN (Unified Socialist) Chairman Nepal.
Deputy General Secretary of the UML Prithvi Subba Gurung had met Nepal a few days ago.
