Court allows police to keep Sandeep Lamichhane in custody for four more days

KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu District Court on Wednesday extended the remand of former Nepal national cricket team skipper Sandeep Lamichhane, who was arrested on the rape charge, by four more days.

This is the third time that the court has extended the remand of Lamichhane to carry out an investigation.

Lamichhane’s lawyer Saroj Krishna Ghimire said that the court extended the remand after the police could not complete the investigation within the given timeframe.

Earlier on October 10, the Kathmandu District Court had allowed police to keep Nepal’s cricket sensation Lamichhane in custody for seven days to investigate a rape charge against him.

A 17-year-old girl had filed a rape complaint against Lamichhane at the Metropolitan Police Circle, Gaushala when he was out of the country.

He returned to Nepal almost a month after an arrest warrant was issued against him.

Though he expressed his desire to turn himself in, police apprehended him upon landing at the Tribhuvan International Airport.
