Flood, landslide in Karnali Province: 33 killed, 480 households displaced
KATHMANDU: A total of 33 persons died and more than 100 households were displaced in different incidents of flood and landslides that took place in Karnali Province.
According to the Karnali Province Police Office, the number of deaths across the province has reached 33 so far.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Madhav Prasad Shrestha said that Jumla witnessed the death of nine people which is the highest in the province.
Similarly, 8 people died in Mugu, 4 died in Humla and Kalikot each and 3 died in Jajarkot, according to SSP Shrestha.
Likewise, 2 people died in Dolpa and Salyan each while one person died in Dailekh, said the provincial police office.
SSP Shrestha said that as many as 22 people are still missing across the province and their search is underway.
480 households displaced
A total of 480 households were displaced due to the flood/landslides triggered by incessant rainfall across the Karnali Province.
According to a police report, 103 families were displaced in Dolakkaha which is the highest in the province.
In the same way, Mugu recorded 178 households displaced, Jumla 86, Kalikot 48, Humla 40, Salyan nine and Surkhet eight.
Rescue and relief operation has been put in place in by mobilizing security forces in the disaster-hit areas, SSP Shrestha said.
