KATHMANDU: Hindus throughout the country are celebrating Krishna Janmastami, the birthday of Lord Krishna, on Friday.

On the occasion, devotees flocked to different temples in the valley from early in the morning to worship Lord, who is considered the eighth avatar of Lord Vishnu.

It is believed that Krishna raised by Yashoda and Nanda Baba — killed the ruthless King Kansa, who was his maternal uncle. According to the Hindu belief, Krishna saved the people of Mathura by killing King Kansa.

Devotees observe the day by fasting, visiting Krishna temples, and worshipping the deity at home with offerings of flowers, fruits and sweets among other items.
