Locals, people’s representatives urge to explore Bhwang Danda of Morahang
ITAHARI : Just below the Mangalbare Bazaar of Sankhuwasabha is a mesmerizing meadow on the Tehrathum section of the hills. There remains a mysterious dark hole in the middle of the meadow. The dark hole is locally known as Bhwang Danda. This is located in Morahang village of Menchchyayem Rural Municipality Ward Number 5 of Tehrathum.
”Many cattle have fallen into this hole since long,” said a local Shepherd, ”This is very deep and long, I guess.” He said warm vapor comes in times of winter from the hole indicating the root of the hole is so deep down.
Dojaraj Gautam, the ward chairperson of Menchchyayem Rural Municipality-5 and a local residing downhill village echoed similar sentiment. ”Bhwang Danda has been a matter of mystery for all residents of Morahang village and we are curious on its exploration from archeological angles”, said Gautam, ”We have written to the concerned authorities to explore it as the soonest.”
Samrat Thapa, who hails from Sikdem, a village close to the Bhwang Danda, said a scientific and modern exploration is necessary for better understanding this area. ”So far as I know, this is a cave and I have an experience of entering few steps downwards during my childhood,” said Thapa, ”However, I could not go deeper fearing the extreme darkness.”
Experts working in caving can find more details, shares Thapa. ”If cavers come to explore the cave, this will probably be the longest cave in the whole of Province 1, if not for all over Nepal,” Thapa shared, ”This needs immediate exploration.” Thapa said its perfect location along the TMJ corridor, which is the capital of rhododendron in Nepal, would work as catalyst to boost its touristic potential and income generation both for locals and the local government.
