9 killed, 23 injured in Rupandehi bus accident

RUPANDEHI: At least nine persons died and 23 others sustained injuries when a passenger bus met with an accident in Rupandehi on Sunday.

The identities of the deceased are yet to be ascertained.

The incident occurred when the bus (Lu 2 Kha 3841) heading towards Bhairahawa from Janakpur veered off a bridge and plunged into the Rohini River along the Bhairahawa-Parasi road section at around 4 am today.

Rupandehi Traffic Police Chief Keshav KC said that the injured are undergoing treatment at the Bhim Hospital and Medical College.

A preliminary police investigation showed that the accident might have occurred after the driver fell asleep.
