Youths stage demonstration in Bara against SC’s decision to halt construction of international airport in Nijgadh
KATHMANDU: Local youths staged a demonstration and enforced a chakkajam at Shahid Chok along the East-West Highway against the decision of the Supreme Court to halt the construction of an international airport in Nijgadh of Bara on Sunday.
Dozens have vehicles and people have been stranded halfway due to the demonstration.
During the demonstration, they chanted slogans like take back the Supreme Court’s decision among others.
They said that they would continue their protests until the apex court reviewed its decision.
Earlier on May 26, The Supreme Court nullified all the decisions of the government to construct an international airport in Nijgadh, Bara as an alternative to Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport over environmental concerns.
A five-member bench of Justices Hari Krishna Karki, Ishwor Khatiwada, Bishwombar Shrestha, Prakashman Singh Raut and Manoj Kumar Sharma on Thursday issued the verdict directing the government to halt all the process of constructing the airport.
