House panel directs government to stop import of betel nuts

KATHMANDU: The Parliamentary Committee has directed the government to stop the import of betel nuts.

A meeting of the Industry, Commerce, Labour and Consumer Welfare Committee of the Parliament on Wednesday directed the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies to stop the import of betel nuts.

The Committee issued such a directive after the meeting held in the presence of Industry and Commerce secretary, Committee Chairman Bimal Prasad Shreewastav said.

He was of the opinion that the committee issued the directive following a decision that the import of betel nuts was not necessary at a time when the country’s economy is in bad shape.
