House ratifies MCC with “interpretative declaration”

KATHMANDU: The Parliament endorsed the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) on Sunday.

The second meeting of the House of Representatives held this evening ratified the $500 million grant compact with interpretative declaration.

Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota tabled the proposal presented by Finance Minister Janardan Sharma on behalf of the Nepal government.

Nepali Congress, CPN (Maoist Centre), CPN (Unified Socialist), Janata Samajbadi Party and Democratic Samajbadi Party lawmakers voiced their support for the ratification of MCC.

The main opposition CPN-UML lawmakers, however, crowd the Parliament well to disrupt the House session.

The UML has been obstructing the House proceedings for the past few months questioning the role of Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota.
