President Bhandari urges government to hold local level elections on time

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba presented the talking note of the discussion held with President Bidya Devi Bhandari two days ago at the meeting of the ruling coalition today.

During the meeting of the Prime Minister and the President held on Thursday, they discussed moving ahead by fixing the date of the local level elections as per the constitution.

According to a source close to Prime Minister Deuba, President Bhandari had handed over a seven-point suggestions to the Prime Minister regarding the local level elections during the meeting.

Though the Prime Minister was not addressed, the talking note was distributed to the leaders at the meeting of the ruling coalition.

Ruling coalition leaders, however, criticised the Prime Minister for trying to be proactive.

The recent statement of the Election Commission was also discussed in the talking note.

The President said that the elections should not be postponed.

President Bhandari also warned the Prime Minister that any attempt to postpone the elections would have a negative impact on the system.
