UML urges India to stop activities that threaten Nepal’s sovereignty and geographical integrity pronto
KATHMANDU: The main opposition CPN-UML has urged India to immediately stop activities that threaten Nepal’s sovereignty and geographical integrity.
Party’s Foreign Affairs Department head Rajan Bhattarai said so by issuing a statement on Tuesday.
“Activities that threaten Nepal’s sovereignty and geographical integrity should be immediately stopped, construction of road and other infrastructure should also be stopped. These issues should be resolved through talks as soon as possible,” the statement read. “The construction of infrastructure should be stopped until these issues are resolved,” the statement further read.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had recently said that the road to Mansarovar of China is being constructed through Kalapani of Nepal.
The UML said that the government’s silence on the issue has raised many questions.
“The incumbent government’s silence on this serious issue related to nationality has raised many questions,” the statement read. “Our party urged the government to hold serious talks on the issue with India at the earliest.”
