It is the responsibility of govt to take MCC project ahead: Home Minister Khand

KATHMANDU: Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand said that it is the responsibility of the government to take ahead the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) agreement that Nepal has signed with the USA as the project is related to poverty alleviation and employment.

Talking to journalists in Jankpur on Tuesday, “The previous governments had taken the MCC pact ahead for the development of the country. An agreement was signed between the government and MCC project many years ago. Now, it is the responsibility of the government to take ahead that agreement,” he said.

He made it clear that the MCC is a grant project and is in the interest of the country.

“There might be some rumours about MCC. The United States has been operating this project for the alleviation of poverty and employment. The Nepal government proposed the MCC to provide the grant assistance for the development of Nepal’s electricity transmission line and road infrastructure,” he said, adding, “MCC project is a grant assistance not a loan.”
