Kathmandu eighth most polluted city in the world
KATHMANDU: Nepal’s Capital Kathmandu has been ranked the eighth most polluted city in the world.
According to a live update from IQAir, a European body that measures the air quality, Pakistan’s Lahore is the world’s most polluted city.
The air quality index in Lahore is PM 2.5 (particulate matter) at 407 micrograms per cubic metre per hour, which is hazardous.
The air quality index in Kathmandu has also been crossing 500 micrograms per cubic metre per hour.
However, the statistics of IQAir showed that the air quality index in Kathmandu has reached PM 2.5 at 176 micrograms per cubic metre per hour on Saturday.
It is considered unhealthy if the index crossed 151.
Environmental health expert Yadav Raj Joshi said that the air pollution has been increasing in Kathmandu for the past two days due to the change in weather.
Incheon of South Korea is the second most polluted city in the world followed by India’s Capital New Delhi, Kyrgyzstan’s Capital Bishkek, Kolkata of India, Croatia’s Capital Zagreb, Bangladesh’s Capital Dhaka and Nepal’s Capital Kathmandu.
