Government to procure 10 million Covid-19 vaccines for children
KATHMANDU: The government has decided to buy 10 million vaccines against Covid-19 for children above 12 years of age.
A cabinet meeting held on Monday gave permission to the Ministry of Health to procure Pfizer and Moderna vaccines. Both the vaccines have been inoculated to the children in the United States among other countries.
Health Minister Birodh Khatiwada said that the meeting has decided to buy 6 million Pfizer vaccines and 4 million Moderna vaccines.
“The Pfizer and Moderna vaccines will arrive soon,” said Minister Khatiwada.
The government has already allocated a budget to procure the vaccines.
The government is preparing to jab children above 12 years of age with these two vaccines. Nepal has already brought the refrigerator to store the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines.
Nepal brought the refrigerator through UNICEF under the Covax facility. The Pfizer vaccines have to be stored in minus 70 degree Celsius.
Nepal has received Covidshield, Vero Cell, AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson vaccines so far.
