Three French climbers missing in avalanche near Amadablam

KATHMANDU: At least 3 French alpinists have gone missing in an avalanche while they were trying to climb a 6000-metre peak in the Mt Everest region on Sunday.

According to Ang Norbu Sherpa, President at Nepal National Mountain Guides Association, they were hit by an avalanche that took place near Amadablam on Sunday afternoon

The missing climbers have been identified as Thomas Arfi, Gabriel Miloche and Louis Pachoud of France.

According to the association, trained mountain guides have been deployed to search for the missing climbers.

A team of Kailash helicopter led by Senior Captain Claudio spotted their tents and climbing material near Minbo La glacier below Mt Amadablam.

The incident came to light after the families of the missing climbers telephoned the Swiss Pilot Claudio and urged him to rescue them.

An aerial search is being carried out by Senior Captain Claudio to find the missing climbers

The search is being carried out in coordination with the Embassy of France situated in Kathmandu.
