14 dead, 22 missing as floods and landslides wreck havoc in Far-West (Update)
KAILALI: As many as 14 persons died and 23 others sustained injuries in floods and landslides triggered by torrential rainfall since Sunday in Far-Western region.
Police said that nine persons lost their lives in Doti, three in Baitadi and two in Dadeldhura.
According to the Sudurpaschim Province Police Office, the deceased have been identified as Mandara Balayar (32) of Shikher Municipality-11, Doti, Jogi Sarki (63), Sher Bahadur Sarki (42), Mohan BK (18), Pabitra BK (13) and Rabin BK (16) of Jorayal Rural Municipality-3.
Police said that Sagar Kunjeda (15) and Ashish Kunjeda (11) of Mallekh, Sayal Rural Municipality-6 Doti after being buried by a landslide.
Mandara Balayar (35) of Shikher Municipality-11 breathed her last during the course of treatment.
Balayar, who was critically injured after being buried by a landslide, was rushed to the hospital but breathed her while receiving treatment, police said.
Three members of a family died after a landslide buried their house in Shivanath Rural Municipality-6 Baitadi.
Kushma Chand, Vice-Chairperson of Shivanath Rural Municipality, said that the deceased as Pabitra Parki (18), her husband Bhanu Parki (24) and their three-year-old daughter Som Parki.
Police said that Bishnu Awasti and Narapati Shahi (65) of Bhatkanda, Ganyapadhura-1, Dadeldhura also lost their lives in the landslide.
23 reported missing in landslides
At least 23 persons have gone missing in landslides triggered by incessant rainfall in Bajhang.
According to Sudurpaschim Province Police Office, 23 persons of four families were reported missing after landslides triggered by incessant rainfall for the past three days buried them at Dikhla in Thalara Rural Municipality-4 of Bajhang.
Police said that Ujjali Parki, Hansu Parki, Ayush Parki, Hima Parki, Sima Parki, Harka Sarki, Dhangiri Sarki, Sita Sarki, Prabha Sarki, Bhumika Sarki, Ishwora Devi Sarki, Sanjeeb Sarki, Sarmila Sarki, Subash Sarki, Bikash Sarki, Mikesh Sarki, Madan Sarki, Kalu Sarki, Alisa Sarki, Kamma Sarki, Sabina Sarki, Saroj Sarki and Samjibi Sarki have gone missing.
Five reported missing in floods
Four persons from Kailali and one from Doti were reported missing after the floods swept them away.
Ganesh Auji, Khadka Bahadur Gharti Magar, Bikaram Gharti Magar, Khadka Rana Magar of Kailali and Bire Rokaya of Doti have gone missing. Police said that they are searching for the missing persons.
62 persons waiting for rescue teams
As many as 60 persons, who were displaced after the flooded Seti River gushed into a human settlement at Dhugad in Sigash Rural Municipality in Baitadi are waiting for the rescue teams.
The people, who have been waiting for the rescue team since Monday night, have urged the concerned authority to rescue them at the earliest.
Though the concerned authorities were planning to rescue them on Tuesday, they could not do so due to the bad weather.
Sudurpaschim Province spokesperson and Internal Affairs and Law Minister Purna Joshi said that they are coordinating with the Nepal Army to rescue them this morning.
