Death toll in Mugu bus accident reaches 28
Update: Death toll in Mugu bus accident has jumped to 32. Police said that 22 men and 10 women lost their lives in the incident.
Talking to Nepal Press over phone, Madhav Prasad Shrestha, spokesperson at the Karnali Province Police Office, said that 24 persons died on the spot, four lost their lives at the Talcha Airport in Mugu, four breathed their last while undergoing treatment at the Nepalgunj Hospital and one at the Kohalpur Hospital.
Among the deceased, the identity of the driver has been established. The driver has been identified as Da Bahadur Rawal.
Most of the deceased are the locals of Rara Municipality, Shrestha said.
Update: Death toll in the Mugu bus accident has reached 28. Inspector Jeevan Lamichhane of the Province Police Office said that 24 persons died on the spot while four breathed their last while carrying out rescue operations.
He said that the 16 people who sustained injuries in the incident were airlifted to Nepalgunj.
Of the injured, three are undergoing treatment at the Kohalpur Medical College while 13 are receiving treatment in Nepalgunj.
26 killed, dozens injured in Mugu bus accident
KATHMANDU: As many as 26 persons died and 26 others sustained injuries when a bus they were travelling in met with an accident at Pinatapane in Rana Municipality-7 of Mugu district on Tuesday.
The incident occurred when the ill-fated bus (Bhe 1 Kha 3167) heading towards Gamgadhi, the district headquarters of Mugu, from Surkhet veered off the road and plunged 200 metres down.
Talking to Nepal Press over phone, Hari Jung Shahi, Chief of the Municipality, said that 26 persons lost their lives in the incident.
The identities of the deceased are yet to be established.
Shahi said that the preparations are underway to take the injured to the hospital on a chopper of Nepal Army and a sky truck.
Some of the injured are said to be in critical condition.
