Banks, cooperatives start distributing new banknotes for Dashain festival (With Photos)
KATHMANDU: With Dashain, the biggest Hindu festival of the country, is round the corner, banks and cooperatives have started distributing new banknotes to the general public from Monday.
The new notes have a special importance in Dashain, which is considered as a festival of eating delicious food and wearing new clothes.
People have started queuing up in various banks and cooperatives since early morning to exchange old banknotes with the fresh banknotes for the festival.
According to the Nepal Rastra Bank, people can get new banknotes from different banks across the Kathmandu Valley.
The central bank has urged members of the general public to abide by the health safety protocols while going to exchange the old banknotes with the fresh new notes.
The Nepal Rastra Bank is planning to distribute new banknotes of Rs 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 denominations upto Rs 15 billion.
The central bank has decided to circulate new notes worth around Rs 35 billion for the festival.
The Nepal Rastra Bank has allowed each person to obtain lower and higher denomination notes of up to Rs 18,500.
Last year, people were not allowed to exchange the new banknotes owing to Covid-19 pandemic.
