4.4 million doses of Vero Cell vaccines arrive in Nepal

KATHMANDU: A consignment of 4.4 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines procured from China arrived in Kathmandu on Friday.

The vaccines were brought on a chartered flight of Nepal Airlines Corporation at around 2 pm today, NAC Managing Director Dim Prakash Paudel said.

The Nepal government had purchased six million doses of Vero Cell vaccines from China last time. Of them, Nepal received 1.6 million doses of vaccines on August 20 and 21. A widebody aircraft hald left for China to bring the vaccines on Thursday.

Nepal has already received around 2.4 million doses of Covidshield, 7.4 million of Vero Cell, 1.6 million doses of Johnson & Johnson, 1.7 million of AstraZeneca vaccines.

Nepal has reached an agreement with GAVI, a global alliance for vaccines and immunisations, to procure 4 million doses of Moderna vaccines and 70 million doses of Pfizer vaccines against Covid-19 through the COVAX cost-share option.

Pfizer vaccines will arrive in Nepal within mid-November.
