UML sends letter to Speaker seeking Shahi, Oli’s removal from post of lawmakers
RUPANDEHI: The main opposition CPN-UML on Tuesday submitted a letter to Speaker Purna Bahadur Gharti demanding removal of Ajay Shahi, who was appointed as a minister without portfolio in the Lumbini Province, and lawmaker Bimala Khatri Oli from the post of lawmakers.
UML Parliamentary Party Chief Whip Bhumeshwor Dhakal submitted the letter at the Province Assembly seeking action against the duo for carrying out anti-party activities. Shahi and Oli had won the elections to the Province Assembly from the CPN-UML.
Dhakal said that the party asked the Province Assembly to take against the duo for not supporting the policy and programmes presented by then Chief Minister Shankar Pokharel-led government and for joining the newly formed government against the directive of Parliamentary Party.
Shahi was elected as a member of the Province Assembly from Nawalparasi constituency 1 (B) in 2017 and Oli had won the by-elections from Dang constituency 3 (B) in 2019.
Shahi has been claiming that he is an independent candidate while Oli has been saying that she is a member of CPN-Maoist Centre.
UML lawmakers have also been criticising Province Chief Amik Shercha for swearing them in as the ministers.
