China to donate additional 1.6 mln doses of Covid-19 vaccines
KATHMANDU: The government of China has decided to donate additional 1.6 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines.
Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Hou Yanqi made the commitment to provide the vaccines to Nepal during a meeting held with Finance Minister Janardan Sharma on Friday.
Earlier, the northern neighbour had donated 1.8 million doses of vaccines to Nepal.
The Finance Ministry said that the vaccines to be donated by China will arrive soon.
During the meeting, Minister Sharma urged the Chinese ambassador to facilitate the process to ship vaccines to Nepal.
Minister Sharma said that the Nepal government would pay serious attention to complete the projects being constructed under the grant assistance of China.
Extending congratulations and best wishes to newly appointed Finance Minister Sharma, the Chinese Ambassador said that China’s policy towards Nepal will not change no matter which party rules the government.
Saying that China had assisted in the reconstruction of 25 different projects in Nepal after the devastating earthquake of 2015, she said that almost half of the projects have already been completed. The ambassador said that the reconstruction of Durbar High School has already been completed and reconstruction of nine-storey palace at the Hanuman Dhoka Durbar Square is on the verge of completion.
She further said that the reconstruction of remaining projects will be completed soon, the Ministry said.
