Government to procure 6 million doses of Pfizer vaccines

KATHMANDU: The government is planning to purchase 6 million doses of Pfizer vaccines targeting children between the ages of 12 and 18.

The government of Nepal has reached an agreement with the vaccine company to procure Pfizer/BioNTech vaccines.

The government has decided to buy the vaccines targeting 5 million people of that age group.

Out of required 10 million doses of vaccines, 4 million will be brought through the COVAX facility, Health Secretary Laxman Aryal said.

“We have reached an agreement with the Pfizer/BioNTech Company to procure six million doses of vaccines,” Aryal said.

The Pfizer/BioNTech Company said that it will provide the vaccines by next April.

Aryal said that the Nepal government is planning to make an agreement with the World Bank asking the latter to provide the required amount as loan assistance to purchase the vaccines.
