Newly elected member of FNJ arrested on rape charges

KATHMANDU: A newly elected member of the Federation of Nepali Journalists, Rupendehi, has been arrested on charges of rape.

According to the Rupendehi Police, Punahari Belbase, a member of the working committee of the federation elected on 7th April, was arrested on  on the charge of rape. 

Belbase, who is also the director of the Nepal Educational Training Center, is accused of raping a young woman who came to study at the institute.

According to Rupandehi Police Spokesperson Deputy Superintendent of Police Satyanarayan Thapa, Belbase was arrested by the District Police Office, Rupandehi after the girl lodged a complaint of rape.

Spokesperson Thapa said that action has been taken against Belbase by registering a case of rape. 

Accused Belbase has been remanded in custody for five days by the district court.

Belbase, who was arrested, was accused by the girl of raping her after a discussion about required fees.

Accused Belbase is the editor of an online news bulletin.
