KATHMANDU: The nationwide General Strike called by the Prachanda-Madhav group of the divided CPN today has affected people’s lives across the country, including the capital Kathmandu.
Public and private vehicles and shops have not been operating in Kathmandu since this morning. The risk of attack by the protesters is the same even on fewer public transport.
Shops are not open around the main road, but shops are operating in the inner areas. The protesters have said that they will not stop the operation of emergency service vehicles.
Public transport is at risk after protesters set fire to a taxi in Gongabu this morning. Police have arrested some leaders, including CPN Standing Committee member Ashtalakshmi Shakya, for marching to make the strike a success.
