Dissolution of Parliament

Pressurizing the court on matters under consideration is wrong: Kamal Thapa

KATHMANDU: RPP Chairman Kamal Thapa has stated that there should be no pressure and influence coming from anywhere regarding cases that are under consideration in the court. Thapa said this after four Former Chief Justices issued a statement on Friday calling the dissolution of the House of Representatives unconstitutional.

He argues that despite some constitutional ambiguities regarding the dissolution of the House of Representatives, there should be no external pressure on this issue while it is being debated in the court.

On Saturday morning, through a tweet, Thapa said, “The Supreme Court has the right to resolve disputes and ambiguities in the implementation of the constitution. There is some ambiguity in the constitutional provision regarding the dissolution of the House of Representatives. In order to remove that, the Supreme Court needs to provide an explanation. Until then, there should be no pressure from anywhere on this issue.”

The case against the dissolution of the House of Representatives is pending in the Supreme Court.
