World Braille Day commemorated in Kaski

Gandaki, Jan 5 (RSS):
The World Braille Day 2021 and 212th birth anniversary of Braille script Louis Braille’s inventor was celebrated in Pokhara on Monday by organising commemorative events.
Kaski Association of the Blind observed the day by distributing face masks, sanitisers and Braille materials slate, stylus, blind-friendly cricket materials and others.
The association’s Chairman Shreekanta Sapkota said that more efforts were needed for the extensive use and recognition of Braille. He also appealed for the visually impaired students not to be deprived of the Braille textbooks at the school level.
According to the United Nations, Braille is essential in the context of education, freedom of expression and opinion, and social inclusion, as defined in the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
He also pledged to supply white canes to the visually impaired elderly.
During the programme, Dr Angana Parajuli and Dr Sudeshna Adhikari of Pokhara Academy of Health Sciences demonstrated handwashing ideas, using facial masks and staying safe from covid infection for the visually impaired people.
